Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Ha Giang → Yen Minh – Approximately 105 km
Begin your journey in Ha Giang City and head north into the mountainous landscape of the Ha Giang Loop.
The first day combines dramatic roads with several cultural and natural stops before finishing in Yen Minh.
Bac Sum Pass
Leave Ha Giang and begin climbing into the northern highlands through Bac Sum Pass.
The winding mountain road is one of the first introductions to the steep terrain and changing scenery that define the Ha Giang region.
As the road rises, urban landscapes disappear and give way to mountains, valleys and scattered rural communities.
Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate
Continue toward Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate, one of the classic gateways into the Dong Van Karst Plateau region.
From this area, the landscape opens dramatically toward the limestone mountains and valleys of northern Ha Giang.
Vietnam Tourism describes Quan Ba as the gateway to the high limestone peaks and rock-strewn landscapes of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Quan Ba Twin Mountains
Continue through Quan Ba to see the distinctive Twin Mountains, one of the region’s recognizable natural landmarks.
The rounded twin peaks rise from the surrounding valley and form one of the classic views associated with the Quan Ba area.
Lung Khuy Cave
Travel onward to Lung Khuy Cave, another highlight of the first day.
The cave adds a completely different experience to the mountain-road journey, taking you away from the viewpoints and roads and into the limestone landscape itself.
Lung Khuy is also listed by Vietnam Tourism among the notable stops on the Ha Giang Loop.
Lung Tam Weaving Village
Continue to Lung Tam, a village known for traditional textile and weaving culture.
This stop provides a cultural contrast to the dramatic mountain scenery and offers a closer look at traditional life in the Ha Giang highlands.
Lung Tam Village is also identified by Vietnam Tourism as one of the notable cultural stops along the loop.
Yen Minh
Continue toward Yen Minh, surrounded by mountain roads and rural scenery.
Finish the first day in Yen Minh and check into your accommodation.
Overnight: Yen Minh
The supplier’s Day 1 route is Ha Giang → Yen Minh, approximately 105 km, specifically including Bac Sum Pass, Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Twin Mountains, Lung Khuy Cave and Lung Tam.
Day 2 – Yen Minh → Meo Vac – Approximately 110 km
After breakfast, continue deeper into the northern mountains.
Day 2 includes several of the most recognizable sights of the Ha Giang Loop and finishes in Meo Vac.
Tham Ma Pass
Travel through Tham Ma Pass, where the road winds sharply through the highlands.
This is one of the photogenic mountain-road sections of the northern route and another reminder of how challenging the terrain of Ha Giang can be.
H’Mong King’s Palace
Continue to the historic H’Mong King’s Palace, also known as the Vuong Family Residence.
Located in the Sa Phin area, the residence is one of Ha Giang’s most important historic landmarks and offers a cultural and architectural stop among the surrounding mountain landscapes.
Vietnam Tourism identifies the residence as a notable Ha Giang attraction and describes it as a wooden palace associated with the H’Mong royal family.
Ma Pi Leng Pass
Continue toward the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass.
This is one of the defining experiences of the Ha Giang Loop, with enormous limestone mountains and deep valleys dropping away from the road.
Vietnam Tourism describes Ma Pi Leng as one of Ha Giang’s most spectacular road sections, overlooking the Nho Que River far below.
Nho Que River
Continue into the Nho Que River region.
The turquoise-colored river runs below the limestone mountains around Ma Pi Leng and through the dramatic canyon landscape of the area.
The combination of the pass above and river below creates one of the most recognizable scenes in northern Vietnam.
Meo Vac
Finish the day in Meo Vac, a remote highland town surrounded by some of the region’s most dramatic mountain scenery.
Check into your accommodation and spend the second night here.
Overnight: Meo Vac
The supplier specifically lists Day 2 as Yen Minh → Meo Vac, approximately 110 km, including Tham Ma Pass, H’Mong King’s Palace, Ma Pi Leng Pass and the Nho Que River.
Day 3 – Meo Vac → Ha Giang – Approximately 135 km
After breakfast, begin the long return journey toward Ha Giang.
Rather than simply retracing the same road, the supplier’s route continues through several quieter highland areas.
H’Mong Café
Begin the day with a stop at H’Mong Café before continuing through the mountains.
M-Shaped Slope
Continue through the distinctive M-shaped slope, another memorable mountain-road section along the return route.
Mau Due
Travel through Mau Due, surrounded by rural highland scenery and small mountain communities.
Ngam La Tea Hill
Continue toward Ngam La tea hill, adding greener agricultural scenery to a journey otherwise dominated by limestone mountains and rocky valleys.
Thai An & Thuan Hoa
The final section takes you through Thai An and Thuan Hoa, passing quieter countryside and communities before the landscape gradually transitions back toward Ha Giang City.
Return to Ha Giang at the end of the afternoon journey.
The supplier lists Day 3 as approximately 135 km via H’Mong Café, the M-shaped slope, Mau Due, Ngam La tea hill, Thai An and Thuan Hoa.
