Da Nang Travel Tips: Beaches, Ba Na Hills, Food & What to Know

Da Nang Travel Tips

Da Nang is one of Vietnam’s easiest cities to enjoy because it combines beaches, modern city life, mountains, food and some of Central Vietnam’s most famous attractions in one place.

A good trip usually mixes time in the city with the coast, one or two major attractions and at least one local food experience. Vietnam Tourism highlights My Khe Beach, Son Tra Peninsula, Marble Mountains and Ba Na Hills among the city’s main attractions.

Start Early at the Beach

My Khe Beach is one of Da Nang’s most popular coastal areas.

Early morning and late afternoon are especially good times to visit. You’ll often see locals swimming, exercising, playing sports and relaxing along the beach before and after the hottest part of the day. Vietnam Tourism specifically recommends experiencing the beach during these cooler hours.

The beachfront also has plenty of cafés, seafood restaurants and places to stop for a drink.

Visit Marble Mountains Early

Marble Mountains is one of the easiest attractions to combine with a stay in Da Nang.

The site includes caves, pagodas, viewpoints and stone stairways. Vietnam Tourism recommends arriving early, before the larger crowds and midday heat.

Wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to explore the caves and viewpoints rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.

Allow Enough Time for Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills is not just the Golden Bridge.

The attraction also includes cable cars, gardens, a French-style village, temples and entertainment areas. Vietnam Tourism describes it as a major family-friendly day trip in the mountains west of the city.

Because it can take much of the day, avoid trying to combine Ba Na Hills with too many other major attractions.

Weather at the top can also be cooler and cloudier than in central Da Nang, so bring a light extra layer.

Don’t Skip Son Tra Peninsula

Son Tra Peninsula offers a completely different side of Da Nang.

The forested peninsula rises above the coastline and is home to Linh Ung Pagoda, the Lady Buddha statue and scenic viewpoints. It is also habitat for the endangered red-shanked douc langur.

If you explore independently, take extra care on steep or winding roads, especially in wet weather.

Try Da Nang’s Local Food

Da Nang has one of Central Vietnam’s most enjoyable food scenes.

Popular local dishes include:

  • Mi Quang
  • Bun Cha Ca
  • Banh Trang Cuon Thit Heo
  • fresh seafood
  • local noodle dishes
  • street snacks and desserts

Vietnam Tourism highlights dishes such as bún chả cá and mì Quảng as part of the city’s local food culture.

Markets, small local restaurants and seafood streets are often as memorable as the city’s major attractions.

Experience the Han River at Night

The Han River area is especially lively after dark.

Da Nang’s bridges are illuminated at night, and the Dragon Bridge is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Weekend fire-and-water performances are a popular attraction, so check the current schedule before planning your evening.

The riverfront is also a good area for cafés, restaurants, night markets and evening walks.

Da Nang Is a Great Base for Day Trips

One of Da Nang’s biggest advantages is its location.

Popular nearby trips include:

  • Hoi An
  • Hai Van Pass
  • My Son Sanctuary
  • Ba Na Hills
  • Marble Mountains
  • Son Tra Peninsula

Hoi An is close enough to combine with a stay in Da Nang, while longer excursions work well as organized tours or private-car trips. Vietnam Tourism regularly presents Da Nang as a convenient base for exploring Central Vietnam.

Our Quick Recommendation

For a first visit to Da Nang, try to include:

My Khe Beach + Marble Mountains + Son Tra Peninsula + Ba Na Hills + local food + one evening around the Han River.

If you have extra time, add Hoi An or another day trip.

Da Nang works best when you do not rush it. Leave some free time for the beach, cafés and local food between the major attractions.
