Best Time to Visit Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc stays warm throughout the year, but the island has a clear difference between its sunnier dry months and the wetter monsoon period.
Vietnam Tourism describes October to June as generally hot, sunny and clear, while July to September is the stormiest and most humid period. Another official Phu Quoc guide describes October to March as the cooler part of the dry season, with April and May becoming hotter as rainfall begins to increase.
For travelers focused on beaches, snorkeling and island-hopping, December to April is one of the easiest periods to visit.
December to March
This is one of the most popular periods for Phu Quoc.
Expect:
- warm temperatures
- lower rainfall
- good beach conditions
- calmer conditions for many boat trips
- plenty of sunshine
December and January are particularly attractive for travelers looking for a tropical beach escape during winter elsewhere.
April to June
Temperatures rise during April and May.
These months can still be very good for beaches and sightseeing, although humidity and rainfall gradually increase as the wet season approaches.
July to September
This is generally the wettest and stormiest period.
Vietnam Tourism notes that storms during these months can affect ferry services and make beach conditions less attractive. If island-hopping is important to your trip, keep your schedule flexible and check sea conditions before booking.
Best Time for Beaches
For classic beach weather, the drier months are usually the safest choice.
Phu Quoc has around 150 km of coastline, with beaches ranging from the long sunset-facing Long Beach to quieter northern areas such as Ganh Dau and Bai Thom.
Best Time for Island-Hopping and Snorkeling
The An Thoi Archipelago south of Phu Quoc is one of the island’s main areas for snorkeling and boat tours.
Official tourism guides highlight trips to islands such as May Rut, Mong Tay and other small islands around the archipelago. Clearer weather and calmer seas generally make the dry season more convenient for these activities.
Our Quick Recommendation
December to March — excellent overall weather.
April to June — hotter, but still good for beaches and sightseeing.
July to September — wettest period, with greater chance of storms and rough seas.
October to November — improving conditions as the wetter season ends.
For a first beach-focused trip, December through April is an excellent target.
