Best Time to Visit Da Nang
Da Nang is a year-round destination, but the experience changes noticeably with the seasons.
For most first-time visitors, March to May is one of the best periods to visit Da Nang, combining warm weather with good conditions for beaches, sightseeing and outdoor activities. Vietnam’s official tourism website also highlights March to May as especially favorable, while Da Nang’s official tourism portal describes roughly March to August as the city’s dry season.
Da Nang Weather at a Glance
January to March
Temperatures are generally milder and more comfortable than in summer. There may still be occasional light rain, especially early in the year, but this can be an excellent period for city sightseeing, Marble Mountains, Son Tra Peninsula and outdoor walks. Da Nang’s tourism authority describes late December through March as mild and pleasant.
April to May
This is one of the best all-round periods for Da Nang. Days become warmer and sunnier, beaches are inviting, and conditions are generally good for combining the city with outdoor attractions.
June to August
Expect hot weather, strong sunshine and busy beaches. Vietnam Tourism notes that this period typically sees little rain and calmer, clearer sea conditions, making it especially attractive for beach-focused trips. Summer is also peak tourism season, so popular attractions and hotels can be busier.
September to December
This is the wetter part of the year. Da Nang’s official tourism portal says showers become more frequent from around mid-September, with heavier rainfall especially during October, November and December. Tropical storms can also affect Central Vietnam during this period, so travelers should keep plans flexible and monitor local weather information.
Best Time for the Beaches
If My Khe Beach and the coastline are a major part of your trip, the dry season is generally the easiest time to visit.
From late spring through summer, the weather is hotter and the sea is often calmer. Vietnam Tourism specifically notes that June through August usually brings little rain and clear, calm water.
Early morning and late afternoon are particularly pleasant times to enjoy the beach. These hours are also when you’ll see more local life, from swimmers and runners to fishermen and families along the shore.
Best Time for Ba Na Hills
Ba Na Hills sits at a much higher elevation than central Da Nang, so conditions can feel noticeably cooler and can change quickly.
Even on a sunny day in the city, it is worth bringing a light extra layer and checking the forecast before leaving. Visibility is especially important if seeing the Golden Bridge and mountain views is a priority.
Because Ba Na Hills is one of Da Nang’s most popular attractions, arriving earlier in the day can also help you make better use of your visit.
Best Time for Marble Mountains and Son Tra Peninsula
For outdoor attractions such as Marble Mountains and Son Tra Peninsula, cooler mornings are usually more comfortable than the middle of a hot summer day.
Marble Mountains is only a short distance from central Da Nang, and Vietnam Tourism recommends an early start for exploring its caves, pagodas and stone steps.
Son Tra Peninsula is another excellent outdoor destination, combining forested hills, coastal viewpoints and wildlife. Dry weather makes exploring these areas easier.
What About the Rainy Season?
The rainy season does not mean it rains continuously every day.
Early in the wet season, showers may be relatively short, while October through December generally brings heavier and more persistent rainfall.
If you visit during this period, keep some flexibility in your itinerary and combine outdoor attractions with cafés, restaurants, museums, shopping and indoor experiences.
During severe weather or tropical storms, follow official local guidance and avoid beaches, bridges and flooded areas.
